Branding 101: How many versions of your logo should have

Oct 12, 2023 | All Articles, Branding Logos, Graphic Design

How many LOGO versions do you need for your brand? Answer: you should have a WHOLE suite  of logos!! Minimum 3, but we recommend at least 4.

Of course you can have more than 4 if your branding requires or benefits from it, but a minimum of 4 is the key to having a strong, consistency, confident brand. Here are the 4 you NEED and why.

1. Primary Logo

Your #1 main logo that you would use most of the time, your go-to and most recognisable. It can include options with and without a tagline if your business has one, and should be in your preferred orientation or layout.

2.Secondary Logo

A secondary logo adds a touch of versatility and adaptability to your brand. It complements the primary logo, offering a fresh take while keeping the core elements intact. It is usually the reversed orientation to the main logo so that it can be used in designs and space that the main logo isn’t suited for. For example, if your primary logo was a horizontal format then the secondary would be a stacked design.

3. Submark Logo

A more simplified version of your full logo, a way to condense your brand into simple and easy form that is still visually linked to your main logos. Your primary and secondary logos are not designed to be used absolutely everywhere. Similar to a brand mark below, except they can include text, it allows for increased flexibility in your brand and another way to create brand recognition.

4. Icon/Brand mark

A simplified, condensed version of your logo used for brand’ recognition. Perfect for digital apps, favicons, or compact spaces. Icons are stand alone, no text or wording, and they are powerful representations for your brand identity. Used to support your business, be visually distinctive and memorable.

👉 Having a full logo suite with multiple variations is a clear sign of a strong brand. It says to your customers that you have invested in your business, that you pay attention to details, and that you are committed to growing a strong business and communicating consistency.

All of our branding packages include all of these versions, if you’d like to chat about taking your brand to the next level and making sure you have a complete brand suite to grow your business with, then let’s chat!!
